Nancy Pelosi Won’t Protect America I’ve been reading a lot about Nancy Pelosi and her cohorts refusing to vote for the Protect America Act in order to keep in play some of the techniques our intelligence agencies are using to fight terrorism. What is wrong with these people? Do they not understand that the terrorist threat is not going to go away on its own? Do they not get that refusing to do this is putting American lives at stake? Are they doing it to simply appease those who are either not smart enough to see the continued danger? Or do they really sympathize with the terrorists and want more Americans to die? There is no other reason to fight against using whatever we need to in order to stop terrorists. Normal, law-abiding citizens are not affected by the Protect America Act as its only focus is on foreign targets in foreign countries. In order for them to use electronic surveillance to investigate an American citizen they still need to obtain a court order. That was the case before the Protect America Act and is still the case. The only time this law would affect an American citizen is if they are in contact with a suspected terrorist. At that point, the surveillance of the terrorist would lead them to their contact within this country and then they would obtain a court order to begin surveillance on that person. In other words, the only Americans who should feel threatened by this are those who are in contact with terrorists. And, even then they can rest assured that a court order will be obtained before their email and phone calls are intercepted or their home searched. So, why are some Americans upset about this law, you ask? That is a very good question and one I don’t have the answer to, nor would most Americans either. After all, do you have a problem with terrorists being listened to in order to stop a future attack on American soil? Do you have a problem with a terrorist’s contacts in the U.S. being discovered through their contacting them and then the FBI or NSA obtaining a court order to find out why? Do you have a problem with protecting American from another 9-11 or something worse? I don’t and don’t understand why anyone would. This law does not encroach on our rights. This law does not make it OK for the FBI, NSA, or Homeland Security to investigate an American without a court order. That is the same as it is regardless of the type of investigation the law enforcement agencies might be undertaking against any citizen. So, why did Nancy Pelosi and the others refuse to vote for it when they knew it didn’t encroach on the rights of Americans but rather allowed us to be protected? I don’t know but any possible answer to that question isn’t that she cares about this country or its citizens, nor do her cohorts. Think about that when it comes time to vote in your primary and the general election this year. It’s time to tell the politicians that playing games with our lives isn’t the way to stay in office and that we aren’t going to take it anymore. It’s time we do what it takes to keep our kids and grandkids safe. And, remember that the ones who won’t vote to protect us are the same ones that want to take away our guns and the right to protect ourselves. What do you think you should do on Election Day? |
